Hot Wasabi Green Peas

I’ll admit that I was hesitant to try this item. I mean, how good could wasabi-coated dried green peas be? They probably taste like spicy chalk, I thought. (I happen to know how chalk tastes. Don’t ask.) And they look like tiny Brussels sprouts. (I’m not knocking Brussels sprouts. I know they can be delicious. It’s just that the ones I’ve cooked haven’t been delicious.) Yet they teased me week after week from their perch on a shelf near the check-out lanes of a—you guessed it—Asian supermarket.

So I gave in last week (if you haven’t already noticed, I can be a weak, weak woman when it comes to food), and bought a plastic container of these Hot Wasabi Green Peas. And was pleasantly surprised. They’re really crunchy, with a wasabi-kick that expectedly builds the more you eat them. I’d eaten one-fourth of the cup before the wasabi-heat stopped me from continuing. I think I’m going to have another one-fourth for lunch now.
