Botan Rice Candy

Add Botan Rice Candy to the list of fun Japanese candies. They’re sweet and chewy, have an orange-lemon flavor, and are covered in an edible inner rice-paper wrapper that melts in your mouth. The photo above shows the two sides of one box.

But the fun doesn’t end at the melts-in-your-mouth rice-paper wrapper.

Each box of Botan Rice Candy includes a sticker. And because I’m a kid at heart, I adore them.

OooOOoOoo!! That is so awesome!! I’ve seen that in stores but had no idea what it was so never got it. I love that first cat sticker! (From one child-at-heart to another)
Just came across your site, I remember eating these as a kid! My mom would always by them for us, and my brother and I would fight over them lol
Ahh, some of my childhood favorites. Have you tried the Tomoe Ame version from Hawaii? For some reason, they seem to taste fresher. I remember years and years ago, they used to put little toys inside of the boxes. If you were really lucky, there would be a toy and sticker – oh boy:)
Adornments by Milani: I’ve never seen the Hawaiian Tomoe Ame Rice Candy, but I’d like to try it. This Botan Rice Candy is quite ubiquitous around here.
I remember eating these as a kid as well. My mother is Japanese and she would get these as a treat for us every once in a while…LOVED them. We enjoyed seeing what little toy was in them as well.
You know, for all the times I ate this candy as a kid, I always tried to peel the thin paper off the candy. Always!
Go figure. Hahaha!
Bianca-san: You’re not the first person who’s told me they used to do that.
Great site! I have just started a website devoted to Botan Rice Candy Stickers. Please check it out at http://www.thebrcgallery.com
where can i buy these from?
Kelsie: You should be able to find this (common) candy at an Asian market. It’s also available on Amazon.com.
