Japanese Style Taro Mochi

I don’t know how to say this, other than to just say it: These Japanese Style Taro Mochi smell like wet socks. Thankfully, though, they don’t taste like them. Not that I actually know how wet socks taste. I think I really need some sleep.

Covered in some sort of powder (maybe rice?), the mochi are sweet and gummy. And the taro flavor isn’t strong; I had forgotten they were taro-flavored until I looked at the box after eating one.

I like these Japanese Style Taro Mochi all right, but will probably stick to Mochi Ice Cream when I want a mochi fix.

I picked these up a few days ago from a local asian market in town they looked good and they were not terribly expensive so I wanted to try them out. Thought to be honest I think I might have though they were Daifuku.

Urk, sorry but I must say I disagree with you all. For one I was not so eager to try them after smelling them. They did indeed smell like wet socks. However, after smelling them I wanted to try and convince myself to taste one. Urk, I must say I will not be buying another box. Blech, I ended up spitting it out. XD

Laura: Finally! Someone else who thought they smelled like socks. Wow, I never thought I’d type that sentence. ;-) Sorry you didn’t like them. But that means we can both search for better mochi! They’re out there…

I agree with laura. I did not spit it out but I definitely swallowed it. Not pleasant at all! It’s like eating a ball of raw wet flour.. which I guess is what it is :)

Avik: I think you’ve given me the most literal description of this mochi to date. :-)

I tried this flavor today, I didn’t detect any foul smells, and I did enjoy the flavor! I want to try the green tea mochi next. :)
