Japanese Mugs

I revealed in my previous post that I’m a fool for floral. I don’t think anyone else knew this before I announced it to the world, a.k.a. The Internet. So I guess it was a happy coincidence that a relative gave me this set of Japanese mugs.

There’s five different ones, each with different flowers. This mug with dark pink petals is my favorite.

I’m in agreement with those people who think presentation plays a part in how something tastes, so I used the mug to steep a Sakura (Cherry) Flavored Sencha tea bag—pretty on pretty. The pretty part of the tea bag was the violet flecks of heather.

The tea bag was also interesting to look at, given its tag with a notch (ingenious! I accidentally drop the tag into the water about a fifth of the time when I drink tea, and have to fish it out with fork tines) and pyramid shape.
So how did the Sakura (Cherry) Flavored Sencha taste? Sort of unfamiliar. It had four ingredients: green tea, cherry leaves, heather, and cherry flavor. I was familiar with the first and last, and didn’t really enjoy the taste of the cherry leaves and heather. I’m glad I tried this tea, but will probably stick to my usual green tea.

Heather? What’s that taste like?
Lian: I can’t say. I think I’m too unfamiliar with the taste of heather to be able to distinguish it while drinking the tea.
