Cool, Calm, and Freaking Out
Hello visitors from The Pioneer Woman’s Web site. I’d like to say that I was cool and calm when I found out she’d posted about the items I’d sent her (those things have never looked so good), but I wasn’t. It was more of a “Holy guacamole!” reaction, only I used a different word than guacamole.
Thank you for visiting, new and old visitors alike.
Cindy
P.S. Of course I also sent Ree Pocky (chocolate and strawberry flavors).

I love Pocky’s. My daughter is addicted. We are lucky to live near two large chains of Asian grocery stores. We can choose which one has the best pricing.
I’m so excited to find you through Ree’s site, mostly because my daughter (whom we adopted from China) is a HUGE foodie.
Just came to your site through PW. LOVE IT! My dad was in the Navy and I remember alot of this stuff (or at least stuff like it) from our 4 years in Okinawa. Speaking of Pocky… do you know it comes in GIANT form now?

Glorious! I look forward to seeing more of your great finds
i found this site through PW as well
seeing all these pictures of snack foods reminds me of my childhood and it makes me really hungry
I am so happy to learn from Ree of your site. I have a couple Asian markets near my home in No.Virginia (just outside Washington D.C.) and have no idea what half of the things are. I should be able to shop there like a pro now.
hi cindy! great site! wandered here through PW and i’m glad i did! my daughter loooooves the strawberry pockys. looking forward to seeing more fun asian foods here.
When I saw the lemon hi-chews I knew I had to come to your site and I am so glad that I did. Japanese candy is the best and I shop J-list for goodies that I can not get locally. I love your site and am excited to hang out here!
I’m also from PW Love your site…actually, a little addicted to it now-have been going through the archives for an hour now
Just got here from PW, and all the cute goodies almost make me want to move back to Sacramento just for the Asian markets.
I love your site! I live in Laos and shop in Thailand a lot but my fave is Japanese goodies!
Yep, I’m another one from PW site — and soo glad!
Woooo, I cannot *wait* to explore your place here. Have firmly bookmarked, and will be a regular reader for sure. I visit several Asian markets in our area (CA Bay Area) and am routinely intrigued and mystified about the various products on offer. Thank you so much for doing this!!!
This is exciting. I’m looking forward to looking around. I have a large group of Asian friends, so I look forward to impressing them with my knowledge! Haha
I did wonder about the Pocky. I was skimming her post thinking “dear oh dear, how could she leave out the pocky?” Still gobble them down 8 years after leaving Asia.
I just took a long walk down memory lane with your site here. I grew up in Japan – 14 years – and miss a lot of these snacks hugely (I’m now in Mexico doing volunteer work, where things like this aren’t easy to find). Thanks for the fun… though now I have a huge craving for some Pretz and mochi and senbei
Hi Cindy! Found you from Ree’s as well. When I saw the Hello Panda and Yan Yan you sent her I headed straight to your site. I grew up with some of these foods (Indonesian-born Chinese, now lives in Australia) and it’s kinda fun seeing them again here! Used to play communion with Haw Flakes. Have bookmarked your site and will be a regular reader from now on!
I came over through Pioneer Woman, too. I’m so glad you sent Pocky! Haha. I only know about Pocky because my brother-in-law practically lives off of it.
Congrats! Anyone who gets a mention from PW should be in hog heaven!!! lol. Now, I will check out your blog (and find out where to get that stuff).
Found you through PW too. Love your site. My hubby is Korean, and I love going to Asian stores. Now I’ll know what to try.
Another PW visitor! I’m so glad she led us to your site! I’ll definitely add you to my feed reader
I’m particularly interested in what you post because I’m living in Indonesia right now. And even where I live, WAAAAAY out in the boonies of Indonesia, we still have a big Asian influence. The tiny stores where I shop carry things like the Hello Panda crackers and such. So, I love seeing them on PW’s site – the other side of the world from me! How fun!
Hi there, Just visiting from PW. So many great sites & so little time!
I’ll have to check you out every now & then. My hubs is Chinese…and I’m just the plain, red-headed caucasian. ha We live up here in the Seattle area so it’s pretty diverse and we have friends that are Korean, Vietnamese, etc. So cool to check out a site that talks about Asian foods…there’s just so much out there!
Hi….just saying hi.
Linda Gilbraith: Pocky is indeed addictive. It’s great that there are so many flavors to choose from; if you get bored with one, you can easily try another flavor.
Tonggu Momma: It’s wonderful that your daughter is such a foodie at a young age.
PudgyPenguin: I’ve tried giant strawberry Pocky once before; I think the giant size is just asking for trouble!
Jenalyn: Seeing food photos always makes me feel hungry. I try to avoid looking at them late at night.
Pat: I still have no idea what half the things are in the Asian markets I frequent. That’s part of the fun.
Sooki: Hi! If I didn’t already know how popular Pocky is, I certainly would after reading the comments on here and PW’s site.
Sarahbelle: I adore Japanese candy, especially the often cute and colorful packaging they have. Thanks for your kind words.
Mommaduke: Thank you. Sometimes I still can’t believe I even have an hour’s worth of reading/browsing material, or that someone would want to spend time looking at my photos and reading my ramblings.
Sarah: I’m fortunate to live near Asian markets but boy, do they get me in trouble sometimes!
Can Can (Mom Most Traveled): I love Japanese goodies, too! And I guess my blog posts (unintentionally) reflect that sentiment; Japanese items are the ones I’ve posted most often.
Karol: Thank you! I’m glad you visited.
Carrie: Before I started this site, I thought to myself: There are people curious about Asian food…right? Thanks for the confirmation.
Laura: Ha! I like your style.
Lori: Good Lord, who knew the notion of me not sending Ree Pocky would cause a little outcry over there?! I understand, though. I would’ve been giving myself a hard smack to the forehead if I’d forgotten to send any to her. Rest assured, Ree and her family know the goodness and fun that is Pocky.
Al: You’re very welcome.
I would love to visit Japan. I am so curious about the snacks (and other types of food) available there.
Cynthia: Hi there! It’s funny the things some people have told me they’ve done with Haw Flakes besides eat them.
Andrea: There are worse addictions than Pocky, right? And I’m also glad I sent Ree Pocky. Otherwise, I’d have to get her some ASAP.
Six Feet Under Blog: Thanks for the congrats, although it feels really weird to say that. A lot of people over at PW’s site have mentioned physical stores where you can buy some of the items.
Michelle: Thank you! And I love going to grocery stores, period.
Junglewife: I am loving reading (on here and PW’s site) what’s available where. These Asian snacks are all over the place!
Bridget: Thanks for visiting. I agree, there’s just so much Asian items out there (and sites to read); I still don’t know what a lot of it is.
Donna in Mid Michigan: Hi, Donna. Thanks for stopping by, and for your comments.
hello cindy! Great site, I’m def. book marking. As a foodie, anime lover and future blogger, I love finding new (and really neat) blogs to visit. Thanks!
Sarah: Hello! Thanks for visiting, and good luck with starting your blog.
Hi, I’m another visitor from Pioneer Woman, and I’m sorry you felt beat down over the Pocky! I noticed it’s absence in Ree’s post, but never thought about it being YOUR fault or anyone’s fault for that matter–I just thought what a wonderful person you must be to have given such a thoughtful gift! I’m going to plan a trip to an Asian market in your honor and see what I can find!
ReadMoreMom: I actually found the Pocky thing more funny than anything else. Then again, I find humor in a lot of things (and it’s sometimes inappropriate). Thank you very much for your sweet words and for visiting.
I have to admit, came from PW’s website as well. I’m glad she posted about the different asian goodies so now I have NO excuse but to buy them in my favorite asian market next time I go. I always passed them by, wondering what the ingredients might be, and not being adventurous enough to try them. I am enjoying your website as well.
Dorene: Hello there! It was only after I started this site that I finally tried some Asian items that I’ve seen dozens of times yet never felt compelled enough to try. I’ve fortunately been pleased with most of those items. I’d love to hear what you liked and didn’t like (regardless of whether I’ve featured it). Pocky is a good place to start.
