Marshmallow

I think marshmallows are an underrated snack. I mean, how often do you buy them unless you’re making something with the little pieces of confectionary goodness, like Rice Krispies Treats or s’mores? And even then, don’t you buy the plain white ones?

So I think the makers of these marshmallows have the right attitude and playfulness—Let’s enjoy the new marshmallow generation!!

Yes, let’s.

Marshmallows do a great job of fulfulling a sweets craving.

They’re so sugary that you can stop after eating just one.

But why should you when it’s so fun biting into their soft and spongy texture?

And the cute and fun continue…

Not marshmallow related, but there is a snack called Kuai Kuai. On the bag is a cartoon character and he is buck-toothed and wearing an over-sized cowboy hat. I remember eating it in Taiwan I think and my sister swears the chocolate-flavored ones are delicious.

Now back to marshmallows! Me and my cousins and sister once tried to roast marshmallows on a stick (chopstick) over an open flame (the stove). They got burnt and were tongue-scorchingly hot! Ah, childhood memories..haha.

Also, Sweety brand taro popsicles have real chunks of taro. Also, there is a kind of popsicle with red bean flavor and has bits of yellow jelly. VERY interesting. Not bad. Oh, and there are also black sesame popsicles. Yeah, I’ve been buying a lot of frozen desserts lately to combat the summer heat. Also, my brother loves mango ice cream mochi. (I figured, that one time, I didn’t get the mango sherbet flavored ice cream (Maeda-en, I believe it was.) and so made up for it by buying mango sherbet mochi. It’s good!

Cayle: This was my first time trying Asian marshmallows and they taste the same as American ones, but they look cuter. :-)

Juju: They were delish—I guess because they’re chock full of sugar!

Bonny: Yeah, their cutness and colors definitely attracted me to them.

Sarahbelle: Is that sarcasm that I detect? Because I like it! ;-)

My: Oh, those must have been some colorful if not pretty s’mores!

Lian: Hmm, the Kuai Kuai snack doesn’t sound familiar to me. Hey, I used to roast stuff on a chopstick over a stove burner, too! And it was also with a cousin. Only it was hotdogs instead of marshmallows. Too funny. (I recall that you also eat Cheetos the same way I do, with chopsticks.) I had to resist buying some tubs of Filipino-style ice cream with some interesting flavors (like taro/purple yam and coconut) today because my freezer is a-burstin’. I’ll need to look for the Sweety taro popsicles, considering that I like taro and I like their red bean-flavored ones.

Dilani: Yeah, I’ve seen several other brands and flavors of marshmallows at my local Asian markets. Sometimes I worry that I’ll run out of things to post about and then I can’t believe I had that thought.

My favourite marshmallows are ones I can sometimes get at our candy store in Chinatown here in Calgary. They come in a bag, and each marshmallow is individually wrapped, and they have a bit of jelly in them. I like the black currant and grape ones best (the black currant ones are in Hello Kitty bags), though the strawberry are good, too. The only problem is I don’t know the English name of them, so I can’t look them up online to order them in when the candy store is out, like they are now.
