Japanese Dollar Store I

My love affair with the Japanese dollar store, where I first spent three hours one winter afternoon, has simmered into a crush. It will continue to be a place of wonders for me as long as it has items like these ones.

Can you guess what these are?

They’re cell phone stands because, you know, even cell phones need to be comfortable. I want to know if anyone guessed correctly.

This apron almost made it home with me until I read on its tag, Do not dry it in the dry machine.

I can’t decide if these socks are awkward or genuis.

I wonder how many snacks I could fit into this lunch bag. I think a lot.

japanesedollarstore8

I don’t know what this was doing in a Japanese dollar store, but I don’t think it belongs anywhere.

japanesedollarstore9

Shiny blue bling.

japanesedollarstore10

Pretty pink.

japanesedollarstore11

How can I be angry when this board game is telling me not to be angry?

japanesedollarstore12

Mug, sugar holder, candy container, the possibilities are several.

japanesedollarstore13

The store’s small selection of chips. The ubiquitous seafood-flavored ones (lobster) are on the top left.

japanesedollarstore14

Candy selection.

japanesedollarstore15

This Blueberry Candy looked intriguing.

japanesedollarstore16

But not as much as the Butter Flavoured Candy.

japanesedollarstore17

I should be a bit concerned with its ingredients, but I prefer to live in the Land of Happy Ignorance when it comes to calories and ingredients in candies (and snacks).

How can something be so wrong.

And yet so right?

    OMG
I want to go to a Japanese dollar store. I’m terribly jealous.

    I’m jealous too!
I want that bunny mug and the “don’t be angry” game made me laugh because I guess it’s suppose to be the “SORRY!” game.

That store looks so fun, I could spend hours there! :)

Is this Daiso or something else? I have yet to make it to one here mainly because I’m afraid that I’ll walk out with at least 1 of everything. LOL!

Juju! I was afraid I’d traumatized you with the jelly fish post. Anyway, don’t be jealous, be glad! Your bank account will thank you. :-)

My: I thought the board game (which also made me chuckle) was probably a version of an American one, but I didn’t know which game. I’ve never played SORRY!

Sarah Lynn: Yes, hours and $!

Sonya: There was also a cute white and gray bear mug. The store’s food selection is pretty small and the butter candy was my first (and only) food purchase from there. I usually just buy plates, bowls, notebooks, and stationery.

Sooki: The bunny mug was $1.50, as most things in the store are. Some items cost less ($1) and some cost more ($4 for that poodle thing and $5 for the board game). But the $1.50 items add up so easily!

Slammie: Yes, the store is Daiso. :-) I’m conflicted because on one hand, I want to tell you to go to Daiso because there are cute and cool things that you need to see to believe. On the other hand, I feel like warning you to stay far away because you’ll pay the price, literally. I mean, I don’t need any of the notebooks that I always seem to leave with and have yet to write in any of them (I just like to admire the cute/pretty/shiny covers), but does that stop me?! No.

Oh, I tried to go with my almost 6 year old daughter this summer but it’s a good thing we couldn’t find it (plus needed to get home to beat traffic) cause she/me would’ve wanted everything in the store. LOL!

I have toe socks. You definitely have to get used to them. I think they are cute, my friend thinks they are creepy. But you can’t wear them with shoes… it takes up too much space!

I did indeed recognize that it was a monkey cell phone holder. I’ve seen stuff like that before. (But different creatures.) By the way, I just wanted to say that I love your posts! Oh, and with the apron, you could just hang it to dry. I hang my clothes (we don’t use the dryer.) Besides, the sun kills bacteria right? (Although it also fades color so I’d flip colored clothes inside out.) I have the split toe socks! (The type that’s in the first sock picture, where it’s like 2 toes.) I get sort of weirded out when I wear them. Also, I like that Hana Hana bag! It’s so cute. And how your mind instantly thinks of how many snacks you could fit in there. Haha, that’s so you.
I’m very intrigued by those rings. And that game, I have a game similar to it called Trouble. And “the possibilities are several” made me laugh, though I don’t think my brother got it. Lobster chips sound good! Tell me if you ever try them.

I have a pair of “toe socks” (that’s what I call them, anyway). They’re interesting…don’t exactly keep your little digits WARM…but they’re comfy.

Granted, I haven’t worn them since middle school…

Is this at a Daiso?? I love those stores!

I’d like to say that I guess they were cellphone holders, but I thought they were giant cute gorilla slippers…

    Asian Aisle says:

Dandy, Lian, and Jessica: Y’all have the socks?! Awesomesauce. The readers of this site are so much cooler than I am. Not that I’m cool (how can I be when I use words like “awesomesauce”?).

Lian: Oh! So it’s a monkey. Huh. I got thrown off by its pink color and didn’t really think of it as any specific animal. And haha, um, it’s so you that you would know what it is. ;-) About the apron—I loathe ironing (and only do it so I don’t embarrass myself even more in public) and avoid hang-drying clothes because it requires extra ironing. So that was a deal breaker for me.

    TabzChewy:
Yup, Daiso. :-) Yeah, I think they do look like slippers in the photo, but when you see them in person (without seeing the sign), you can tell they aren’t because they’re not long enough.

    Lian says:

Oh yeah, the Anka biscuits! They were just as you described. Lightly sweet. Very thin. I think I was expecting some sort of special “red” flavor to it, haha. But yeah, it tastes like sesame. I’m glad I got it! (I also haven’t had the coconut flavored grass jelly drink yet.)

Aww I love that store! I actually went to the Japanese one dollar store..in Japan! (its called 100 Yen). I hardly spent enough time there and didnt do nearly as much damage as i could have. I guess could be a good thing…but i wont be going there again for a loong time, if at all sadly.

    Asian Aisle says:

Dilani: Lucky you! I would love to visit a dollar store in Japan, aside from supermarkets (of course).

Bekah: I think you can’t go wrong with butter-anything. And if I’m wrong, please don’t correct me. ;-)
