Tiramisu

Tiramisu, it’s not you, it’s me.

See, I keep comparing you to other tiramisus that I’ve eaten.

Like the first one I fell in love with. It was made by a former co-worker whose dream was to bake cakes for a cafe, instead of work in the finance industry. His tiramisu woke up my tastebuds with its rum flavoring.

Then there was the tiramisu that was served at my first rewards luncheon held at an Italian restaurant. I was seduced by its espresso and mascarpone cheese.

But it wasn’t always fancy tiramisus who won my heart. I harbored great affection for one more tiramisu, all five pounds of it with its lady fingers and dusting of cocoa powder. Rest in peace, Costco tiramisu.

I like you well enough, I truly do, Tiramisu. You’re soft and sweet and creamy.

And I know that we’ll be seeing each other again. It’s just that I don’t think I can get into a long-term relationship with you. But don’t worry—there are other shoppers in the market, who will love you for you.

I love fresh tiramisu and have had it in many versions, too. My favorite one is my sister’s, which I beg her to make for my birthday every year. She makes it with espresso and cream cheese, and decorates it with chocolate shavings (and sometimes seasonal berries). It’s to die for!!
Allie: Your sister’s tiramisu sounds delicious! I think my favorite version is with rum or espresso, cheese, and then dusted with cocoa powder.
