Golden Rabbit Creamy Candy

goldenrabbitcreamycandy1

Many people will remember White Rabbit Creamy Candies, with their white, orange, blue, and black wrappers and plump white rabbit trademark, as something they ate growing up. Yes, these candies have been around for years and garnered worldwide attention in recent times when the chemical melamine was found in them. The candies were consequently pulled from store shelves in September 2008.

Well, apparently the original White Rabbit Creamy Candies are available again in some parts of the world (I haven’t seen them since their recall). Only now they’re made with milk from New Zealand and not China.

And there’s also another version, which I’m featuring in this post, called Golden Rabbit Creamy Candy, containing milk from Australia.

Is anyone fooled, really?

The words Golden Rabbit Creamy Candy printed smack dab in the middle of the bag.

goldenrabbitcreamycandy3

White Rabbit appearing on the top left corner.  Do they want us to associate the candy with White Rabbit, or what?

goldenrabbitcreamycandy4

I’m thinking no, based on the slightly different-sounding name, new rabbit trademark, and new colors.

goldenrabbitcreamycandy5

Wait, now I’m confused. Anyone else?

goldenrabbitcreamycandy6

Not quite as friendly looking as the original White Rabbit trademark. I think this rabbit needs to gain at least 10 pounds.

Anyway, the candy still has the same melt-in-your-mouth rice paper wrapper.

I think the melt-in-your-mouth effect is pretty cool.

At least the candy’s taste remains the same. If you’re familiar with the taste of condensed milk, that’s how it tastes. If you’re not, think of the flavor of cream/warm milk. The texture is the same as well, like that of Starburst or Hi-Chew Fruit Chews.

I think I eat this candy more for nostalgic reasons than for its taste…and we know nostalgia can make things taste better than they really do.

mmm sounds good but I am still effy that the same candy made in China had melanine in it… so yeah can’t say I would trust this candy… I’d be worried.

Sonya: Well, this candy is still made in China, but now contains milk from other countries. With that said, I’m still wary, too.

Well, if the milk comes from New Zealand, I might be tempted to eat white rabbit candy again. However, it depends on what the other products are and that can be scary.

You can’t trust chinese manufacturers as they have no business ethics. I have am wary of any foodstuff made in China these days.

Oh, I didn’t know this happened! Although now I’m starting to remember slightly…Rabbit candy being taken away(a cousin gave me some before the recall thing happened)…(though I hadn’t been interested in eating it at the time and I guess that’s a good thing.) But man! Shady doings on the part of Chinese food manufacturers! Yikes. I still remember a story I read about how a street vendor would sell steamed “meat” buns with cardboard inside. (The cardboard was made softer by putting it in acid and the soggy cardboard was later mixed with real fat. The guy interviewing said that he couldn’t really tell, except that the “meat” was tougher than normal.)

You really think that Golden Rabbit tastes like the original White Rabbit candy? I don’t think so. I was addicted to the White Rabbit candies and the new ones don’t taste the same. Anyone agree with me on this?

    Tomzy says:

Hey , tt – I agree with you. It looks completely the same however the taste of these new ones aren’t that much good compared to the original ones. I trusted this company with its candy even after the discovery of the substances inside the candy. So why not trust it when people are pushing that it’d be healthier ?

tt and Tomzy: I shouldn’t have said the candy tastes the same, but rather similar, as it’s been years since I’ve had the original. So, I can’t really say how similar or better the new one is to the original. Thank you, you two, for your opinions.

I bought these today for only 75 eurocents, with the creamy candy tag on it, but now they were so cheap I’am afraid there is a reason for put them on sale

Frank: Asian markets are back to selling this candy in its original (White Rabbit) packaging. So maybe look for that one, too. Otherwise, Amazon.com sells both: http://amzn.to/lflxQ9 and http://amzn.to/iAgTJP.

I bought some classic White Rabbits in Hangzhou in May, and then came across all this brouhaha about the tainted candy when I was looking for a source to buy more because they really are yummy. And then today I was pleased to find a huge display of them in my Honolulu Longs (CVS) candy aisle. Haven’t done a taste comparison yet. And I haven’t seen the funny Golden ones–a funny twist on Year of Golden Rabbit.

Baroness Radon: Yeah, I’ve seen the classic ones back in stores for many months now. I haven’t done a taste comparison, either. I’ve actually still got some of the candy from the package I used for this post!

golden rabbit is almost the same as white rabbit the only difference is they use milk from austrailia instead of china and changed the name after the milk and thier good name was tarnished with the whole melamine incident.
