Choc Nut

choconut1 I’ve got a definitely thankful and almost regretful relationship with this Choc Nut. See, I’m definitely thankful that Sarah Lynn, who won my first giveaway and got married in the Philippines in December, was thoughtful and gracious enough to pick out a few of her favorite Filipino items while she was there and send them to me. choconut2 Yet I’m kind of regretful because one of them was this. choconut3 Choc Nut, which comes in small bars that are stacked in two, four by six layers. choconut4 I like this item so much that I’ve been hoarding the remaining 18 pieces like a Survivor competitor hangs onto a Doritos chip (with a hand hovering over it, ready to beat away any poachers).

choconut5 This candy wasn’t what I expected in appearance. I thought that, because of its name, I’d see peanut bits embedded in the bar, like how almonds are in a Hershey’s milk chocolate one. choconut6 But no, it was a smooth piece of candy that was so delicate, it could crumble it not handled gently. choconut7 A chalky texture, yes, with a very sweet peanut and cocoa taste.

None of my local Asian markets has a big selection of Filipino items, so I may have to order online on the sad, sad day I’ve finished my Choc Nut stash.

Thanks, Sarah Lynn, thanks a lot, for introducing me to my latest candy obsession.

You’re welcome Cindy! I always have to bring back at least 4 packs of Choc-nut or Choc-o-star when I visit the Philippines, my brothers love it too! And Pilipino Mart, I’ve ordered from before- they ship pretty fast!

Hey, lucky you. I miss Choco nut sooo much! I haven’t had it in 2 looong years, since I last visited the Philippines on vacation. I can’t seem to find it here in Houston but I’m going need to order it online soon.

Sarah Lynn: It’s a relief knowing I can order it online…I’m down to 15 pieces…

Gwen: If Sarah Lynn hadn’t given Choc Nut to me, I may never have tried it. The stores around here carry Filipino sauces and chips, but not really candies. I do feel fortunate!
