Fortune Bun

If your eyes and mind haven’t yet recovered from the photos in my previous post, hopefully the ones in this entry will help to erase those images and thoughts.

A tray of frozen Fortune Buns.

Some of you may recognize them as something served at the end of a Chinese meal celebration, usually a birthday (at a restaurant).

The Fortune Bun resembles a flower bud with prominent green leaves.

And blush-pink color.

Here are the buns after I’d steamed them.

One cut in half.

The filling is red-bean paste. A sweet taste, with a sweet sentiment.
EDIT: The buns are peaches and not flower buds. We can all thank reader Lian for this correction!




They look pretty alright
They have these at the buffet we go to! They’re my favorite part of the meal.
Coffee: Oh, now that you’ve mentioned it, I have also seen them at a Chinese buffet.
They’re supposed to be peaches! They look so pretty. Though I’d usually prefer a mung bean flavored one if they have it.
Lian: They’re peaches? *Embarrassed* And to think I asked a Hong-Kong native what occasion the buns are served, and didn’t bother clarifying what they actually are because I thought it was obvious! I’ve edited the post with your correction; thank you! (And I think I’ve only ever had these buns with red-bean filling.)
