Chinese Bakery

chinesebakery1

A weekend-morning breakfast comprising items that may have you asking, “What’s that doing in a Chinese bakery?”

(If you’re allergic to the color orange like I kind of am, then I apologize for the background of these photos. Let’s just assume that the bakery was going for a retro look with its table-color selection and plate-design choice. And this is the same bakery where I got the Red Bean Bun and Cream Bun.)

Bavarian Cream Bun.

chinesebakery3

With cream on the outside.

chinesebakery4

And more sweetness inside.

chinesebakery5

Ham and Egg Bun.

chinesebakery6

The bun was a bit soggy…

chinesebakery7

but I was more interested in the filling, anyway.

chinesebakery8

One of the two pieces of ham.

chinesebakery9

Two remaining bites. Or, you know, one Cindy-bite.

chinesebakery10

Chestnut Bread for take home.

chinesebakery11

Chestnut paste throughout.

chinesebakery12

And a topping of almond slivers.

chinesebakery13

Tiramisu.

chinesebakery14

Dessert for breakfast?

chinesebakery15

Why not? I mean, it has an all-important breakfast component—sugar!

Yum! I’d love to have the cream bun and tiramisu for breakfast right now. But cereal will have to do. :-(

    aaaaw… I need to go to a Chinese Bakery… it’s really nice in the Montreal Chinatown… the only problem? It’s 250 km away from me… ;.;

Connie: Eating cake for breakfast is never wrong. Ever.

Sonya: Girl, can you catch a food break?! I’ll think about you before complaining that some place is “too far away.”

I really wanted to take some photos of the fruit-topped cakes, but I couldn’t very well voice my inner pre photo-taking wishes to the bakery lady. Which were: “Could you please wipe the display-case window a bit? It’s not quite shiny enough for me. Or if you won’t do that, can you take the cakes out and place them on the table by the window? I can also do it myself, if you don’t mind.”

I may be a bit crazy but I’m not rude. Out loud.

Hahahah! I love your thoughts! haha! One Cindy bite and the thing about what you want to but didn’t say to the bakery person to get more decent pictures.

Okay, back to the food. I HIGHLY approve of the Bavarian cream bun! (As you know, I love custard buns.)
The savory one, I’m sorry it was soggy, but gosh, can you imagine (or, I’m trying to imagine it actually, haha) if the egg was just freshly cooked with delicious runny yolk? Mmm…..runny yolk….(I’ve been making myself a lot of egg/ buttered and pan toasted English muffin/ cheese/ mayo & ketchup [sandwiches] lately. I lurve the runny yolk.
The chestnut bread with chestnut paste sounds highly interesting! I’ve never encountered such a bakery item myself. How was it?

Oh, my mom and aunt went to [Irvine, I think it was] to go to this bakery called 85c. They brought back SO much interesting bread! There’s a black one (squid ink!) that’s garlic butter flavored with cheese. Mm…(And several other healthy ones with walnuts. Walnuts,…my nemesis.) But I loved the savory ones. The garlic butter cheese ones. (There were at least 3 different kinds. And some were actually better than others! The squid ink one….was THE. BEST. Don’t be put off by it! There’s absolutely no weird squid-y taste.

Lian: The Chestnut Bread was yummy. The bread itself was light, and the ribbons of chestnut paste throughout lent a bit of sweetness. Other available bread flavors were Bavarian cream (!), coconut, red bean, and raisin.

I actually liked squid ink, the one time I tried it. The dish was a delicious Squid Ink Risotto. I didn’t order it myself, rather sampled a few spoonfuls of my dining companion’s. Ummm..while it was yummy, it’s not really a dish I recommend ordering on a date, business dinner, or something similar. You know, with the squid ink giving you black teeth and all.

Haha! There’s also this place called Boiling Crab that’s really famous (where I live I guess) and it’s always mega-crowded with a long wait time and they don’t seat you unless all of your party are there (so it’s a disadvantage if you come with a giant group of people, especially people who are chronically arriving late to things.) But anyway, so this place, Boiling Crab, they give you bibs to wear! And rolls of paper towels! Because eating WILL be messy. They have bags (by the pound(s)) of shrimp, clams, what else? They have fried oysters and yam fries (sweet potato?) and regular fries with Cajun spices. (Everything with cajun spices. It’s their best seasoning in my opinion. They also have garlic butter, but that’s verrrry artery-clogging (I mean, after a while, you can FEEl it.) and lemon pepper I think.)
Oh, and at the end, when they’re clearing the table, they just lift everything up because the “tablecloth” is a giant disposable wax paper. (Oh, and of course, they give you moist towelettes.)
