Japanese BBQ Wheat Cracker (Japanese Ramen/Cube)

japanesebbqwheatcracker1

It’s a Monday; do you know where your smile is?

japanesebbqwheatcracker2

Turn your frown upside down!

japanesebbqwheatcracker3

Withhh…a good good eat!

(I do not work in marketing or advertising, much to no one’s surprise, I’m sure.)

japanesebbqwheatcracker4

I’m going to do something a little different with today’s post.

japanesebbqwheatcracker5

That is, I’ll be telling you how this Japanese BBQ Wheat Cracker tastes, now…

japanesebbqwheatcracker6

rather than at the end of the post.

Did you ever eat dried ramen as a kid? You know, did you ever tear into a package of ramen, sprinkle the dry-only seasoning packet(s) over the noodles, and crunch in? Or was it only me?

That’s what these cubes taste like…crunchy noodles heavy on the ramen flavor with some spice thrown in.

A palatable snack, as well as a fun reminder of when I was young and on the brink of a corny sense of humor.

But enough about me, let’s focus on you. The following three photos are not for those readers who cannot handle stories with sad endings.

Without further ado, I bring you The Tale of Kumi, the Japanese Ramen Cube That Couldn’t.

japanesebbqwheatcracker7

Kumi was a nice cube, full of flavor and spice.

japanesebbqwheatcracker8

Until one day when she fell into the wrong hands…human hands that didn’t handle her with the care her fragile state needed.

japanesebbqwheatcracker9

And so she…she…*sob*.

She joined other unfortunate cubes before her, in the Land of Leftovers.

R.I.P., Kumi.

Oh, this is one of like the classical Taiwanese snacks – dried ramen noodles w/ flavouring! It’s deliciously MSG. (Don’t know about this one, but a lot of the others are!) Have you tried Prince noodles yet? There are also numerous other little brands of these kinds of dried noodles. This brand is especially good though, and the nuggets like these are incredibly moreish. :D

Wei-Wei: I actually thought this was from Japan until I looked closer. I *never* knew that it’s a classic Taiwanese snack, and that there are brands of these noodles like Prince. And oh, I’d looked at the list of ingredients for this item, fully expecting to see MSG as one because it was so tasty, but it’s not an ingredient.

Oh, I’ve seen pictures of this! I have some relatives in Taiwan. I don’t know if I’ve eaten dry noodles like that but I had a cousin who did and I was sort of weirded out by it. I can understand it now though of course! But I still prefer my Chow Mein noodles cooked with water!
