Tired. I don’t think I need to explain why, right? Shouldn’t there be an extra day to recover from busy weekends or holidays? It could be called something polite like Self-Recovery Day or Family Recovery Day. Or something impolite that we’ll all keep to ourselves. Feeling like I do now, it’s a good thing, then, that I have to say what I do about these Kasugai Roasted Mix Nuts. Yes, another post about the Japanese dollar store. And possibly my last one. About the store, that is. See, during my last visit there a few days ago, when I was standing in a quiet corner taking photos, a shrill voice rang out with, “You can’t take pictures in here!” Oh boy, not this again. I knew I needed to work on my ninja photo-taking skills. Or lack thereof. But I’m not bitter about no longer being able to take photos there. Except when I think about it. Anyhoo, I went to the store in search of stocking stuffers of the non-food variety and found some things I wanted to stuff my stocking with.
Like this, which totally brings me back to being a child of the ’80s. Whatcha think—is a 20-something too old to rock this heart bracelet?
Well, we really shouldn’t be surprised by now that regarding Japanese items, the cuteness extends to drinks.
I should really know better by now.
See, when I picked up this small tube of candy, I expected to be biting into coffee beans, the kind that are ground to make coffee. Yeah, my mind works in weird ways. (And why would I want to bite into those coffee beans???)
Before I get to what was actually inside of the tube, let me talk about what I saw when I untwisted the top. Some little animal drawings with Japanese words ending in an exclamation point. Now this I would be surprised not to find.
I like the flavor of tea. And I like the consistency of coffee with milk or half-and-half. I got this drink because of the promise of both those things.
I just want to point out something that I think is pretty ingenious about this item—the advertising found on both sides of its neck. Here you see an ad for a Green Tea N’ Cream drink (the other side displayed a picture of Thai Tea Powder).
The advertising doesn’t involve only pictures, though. It also includes the words, “Made from finest ingredients.” (The distributor of this drink is a company called Taste Nirvana.) So did this drink meet the hype? |
